Climbing in Sheffield

If there’s one sport the screams Sheffield, it has to be climbing! Sheffield is the UK Climbing Capital and people travel from far and wide to the gritstone edges of the Peak District.

You can climb in Sheffield come rain or shine, as we also have some excellent indoor facilities at The Foundry, Awesome Walls, The Depot, Climbing Works or the Matrix which is actually part of the student facilities at Sheffield University but is open to the public too.

Outdoor climbing is best at Stannage Edge (pictured) and nearby Burbage is popular too. You can also head to Rivelin Crags or escape the crowds at Dovestone Tor. There are several purpose built boulders which you can find here.

If you’d like to book a guide or lessons, contact DC Outdoors, Pure Outdoor, Gritstone Adventures, or Beyond the Edge.

We also have the annual Cliffhanger festival!

Sheffield has two main football teams now, the Blades and the Owls.
