Mountain Biking in Sheffield
There are so many options for mountain biking in Sheffield and the Peak District, after all, we’re not called The Outdoor City for no reason!
Let’s talk purpose-built first:
Lady Cannings – at the edge of Houndkirk Moor and the Peak District, the two trails at Lady Cannings can easily be combined with a ride into the Peaks for a perfect varied day out on the bike.
Grenoside Woods – a combination of red and black trails, home to Peaty’s Steel City Downhill.
Wharncliffe Woods – a variety of more technical trails, a favourite of many Sheffield locals.
Rother Valley – a variety of trails around the lake and surrounding area, here there’s something for everyone.
Parkwood Springs – the UK’s first ever Urban bike trail.

Mountain Biking in the Peak District
If you’re after “natural” mountain bike trails, look no further than the Peak District, which is growing in popularity year on year with mountain bikers.
The most popular areas are Houndkirk Moor and Blackamoor which are adjacent to Lady Cannings plantation. And in the Hope Valley, there are several routes around Win Hill, Castleton and Derwent and Howden Reservoirs.
The Trailforks website is particularly handy for finding mountain bike trails. The below are good to know too:
Bike Garage has been voted the Peak Districts best cycle hire who also provide maps and advice on routes. They’re based within the Hope Valley Garden Centre just outside Bamford in the centre of the best mountain biking area in the Peak District.
You can also arrange a guide through Pure Outdoor, Gritstone Adventures, Marmalade Mountain Biking or Mountain Biking and Beyond.
